PBS has commissioned Krasnow Productions to tackle the Irish format Genealogy Roadshow, which will debut on the U.S. pubcaster on September 23 at 9 p.m. EST.

Originally made by Big Mountain Productions for Irish pubcaster RTE, Genealogy Roadshow sees participants investigate their background with the aid of genealogy, history and DNA experts, local historians and more.

In the U.S. version, the show will focus on four American cities – Nashville, Austin, Detroit and San Francisco – which were selected as centers of culture, diversity, industry and history.

The participants will go on a scientific and emotional journey as they explore unverified genealogical claims that were passed down through family history.

“Genealogy Roadshow is an engaging, innovative program that reveals the bigger picture of our nation’s past, present and future,” said Beth Hoppe, chief programming executive and general manager of general audience programming for PBS.

“With a diverse mix of stories in each episode, Genealogy Roadshow appeals to Americans interested in learning about their family histories. It also shows that no matter one’s heritage and background, everyone has a place in history.”
